Effective Date: 15 July 2025
Snowball is a social app to log and connect over hobbies and meaningful real-world activities. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect your information.
1. Information We Collect
When you sign up, we collect your name and email address via Google login or email sign-up. You can choose to keep your email address private. We do not collect behavioral data for advertising or tracking purposes. We do not access your device contacts, location, or camera roll without permission.
2. Use of Your Data
Snowball’s use and transfer of any information received from Google APIs complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
We use your data solely to provide Snowball’s features and services. We do not sell your data, share it with third parties, or use it for advertising. Access to your data is limited to our app developers and administrators for maintenance and improvement of the app.
3. Social Features and Content Visibility
Snowball includes social features like logs, profiles, friends, and messaging. Here’s how visibility works:
Logs: Each log can be set to one of three visibility options —Public, Friends Only, or Private— when you create it. This setting cannot be changed later.
Profiles: Your profile is always visible. It displays your display name, number of logs, number of goals, and number of friends.
Friend Lists: Only friends can view each other’s friend lists. If you’re not friends with someone, you will only see the number of friends they have.
Messages and Replies: You can only send DMs or reply to logs if you are friends with the person.
Reports: You can report logs or users at any time for review. We do not show your email address publicly. You control who sees your logs through the visibility setting selected at the time of posting.
4. Direct Messaging
Messages between users are encrypted in transit and stored securely to enable chat history. Messages are not deleted from recipients’ inboxes even if the sender deletes their account. We do not read or monitor DMs unless necessary to investigate abuse or spam reports.
5. Social Graph and Interaction Data
We store limited metadata about your interactions (e.g. who you add as a friend, who you DM, who you reply to) to support social features like mutual friends, unread messages, or interaction counts.
This data is not used for advertising, profiling, or external sharing. It exists solely to enable Snowball’s core social experience.
6. Abuse Reporting and Moderation
You can report any user or log that you believe violates our community guidelines.
Our team reviews these reports and may remove content or restrict accounts that engage in spam, harassment, impersonation, or other violations. In serious cases, we may preserve limited account data for investigation purposes as required by law.
7. User-Generated Content Ownership
You retain ownership of the content you create—your logs, captions, and photos. By posting, you grant us a limited license to display that content within the app (e.g. your profile, feed, activity pages).
We will never use your content for promotional or commercial purposes outside of the app without your explicit permission.
8. Data Deletion and Retention
You can request to delete your account at any time through the app.
Once we process your request, your data is permanently deleted from our servers immediately. This includes your logs, photos, goals, and account information. We will send a confirmation email to notify you once deletion is complete.
Messages you’ve sent to friends will remain in their inboxes even after your account is deleted.
9. Security
We use strong security measures to protect your data from unauthorized access or misuse. Data is stored securely and access is limited to essential personnel.
We comply with Apple’s and Google’s data privacy requirements to ensure industry-standard protections.
10. Legal Compliance
Snowball is available in multiple countries and we strive to comply with all relevant data protection laws and app platform policies. If required by law, we may share limited data with authorities following due process.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our app or privacy practices. When we do, we will update the effective date and notify users as needed. We encourage you to review this page periodically for the latest updates.
